Hi everyone.

I'm a student at CCAC and one of the schools I'm considering transferring to is Carlow. The main reason I'm interested is because of the Carlow Accelerated Program, since I've been taking 4 week fast track classes here at CCAC. Is anyone in this community in the CAP program? Or, has anyone transferred from CCAC to Carlow for Social Work? Did they accept many credits? The adult admissions counselor I was assigned to at Carlow hasn't been very helpful.

Looking for something to do tonight?

You can see three of the city's best alternative comedy groups at 8:30 p.m. tonight at Future Tenant (801 Liberty Ave, Downtown) for only $6 or $3 with student ID.

Has anyone taken sculpture and/or ceramics? If so, could you please give me a brief overview of the class(es)? How much out-of-class work is required? And what are grades based on (talent, effort, creativity, etc)? Thanks so much in advance!

Hey everyone.

Im planning to become a student of Carlow, Pitt, or Chatham by Fall 2007.  And Id love some honest opinions.   I plan to study Social work, and currently I am in the beginning of my second year at CCAC.  I had originally planned to come in starting the fall, but Spring also looks like a decent idea, at least for Carlow and Chatham.

Ive looked all over the sites, and haven't found anything about application deadlines for spring.  So did I miss them?

Secondly, Dorm life.  This will be the first time I will be in a dorm, and I want to know how your dorms rate.  Also, the likely hood of a transferring junior getting a room.  Single or double.

Lastly, I think, I know that Chatham is all girls, but I am not sure about Carlow, so if anyone could clear that up for me?

Oh, sorry.  This is last thing, what's the Social work program like?  If anyone is studying it?

Thank you guys so much.

Dear all,
It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the death of Dr. Craig Johnson, Professor of Chemistry and Chair of the Chemistry Department. Dr. Johnson, a 16 year veteran of the faculty, will be deeply missed by all of his colleagues, faculty, staff and students. We will inform you of any arrangements as soon as we know of them. We plan a campus memorial service for early in the fall semester. Please keep Carig, his mother and other family members in your prayers and thoughts.

Hey guys,

I'm graduating and moving into an apartment, thus I will no longer be needing my mini-fridge.  I bought it for $185 and I'm selling it for $120.  It is still in top notch condition.

It's a larger fridge (2.5 cubic feet), has a produce tray, a can holder/dispenser, and tons of shelf space.  The shelving units in the door are spacious as well - the bottom shelves are large enough to hold both a milk container and a juice container of regular size; the shelving at the top is large enough to hold jars (peanut butter, jelly, mustard). The freezer is large enough to hold two ice trays (one small and one large), or a number of frozen dinners - both of which I have done.

If you are interested, feel free to contact me.

This is just a public service announcement

1) check your email, because there was a revison to the new core requirements!

2) Today (or very early tomorrow!) is the last day for submissions for the final edition of The Purple Menace. They are taking FREE senior spotlights... so now would be a great time to email them and attach a cute photo. It's a great way to say goodbye to some of the awesome seniors who are graduating. I know a bunch of you know Katie Kelly, etc. So make sure you get them in! purplemenace@carlow.edu

Also, as a protest of the banning of the monologues, The Purple Menace is accepting personally written monologues. They can be funny, they can be serious, but they must be submitted.

LASTLY, the newspaper is a great way to become involved on campus and looks great on a resume. There are many spots available for next year, so consider joining the staff of the Purple Menace!

I had been seriously considering transferring to Pitt, and this caused me to really evaluate how I feel about my school.
While yes, I have indeed been fucked over by them- probably 10x harder than most people- I've let it go and decided to think about how I feel about the school right now, because all that drama is behind me and thats where I want to keep it.
This is what I decided:
I love that my school is small. It can be annoying trying to explain to people that Carlow is infact a University, in Pittsburgh, with many really good specialty programs. I think that we sometimes believe that our school sucks because it isn't as well-known as the other area schools- but that isn't true. It's just smaller so there is less to cover.

I like being able to get to know my teachers. I know nearly every biology and chemistry professor well, and some personally, without going out of my way to do so. Also, it's nice that when I needed a letter of recomendation last week I had to narrow down who I'd ask, and I didn't feel uncomfortable asking.

AJP is amazing, but yeah, the other buildings are old- but who else can say they go to class in a reconstructed church? The architecture is really amazing oncampus and I think we take that for granted sometimes. And if that doesn't suit you, take three seconds and walk across the street- just because you're not taking most of your classes here doesn't mean you can't use the facilities. Best of both.

Now, I do not live in the dorms. I did, but now I don't. Dorms anywhere suck- the dormatory part of Carlow is little reflection on the actual school. That goes for the cafe too. My bfs dorms at pitt were a lot worse than ours and had little to no order.

This is all from a 2nd year Bio-Major perspective.
So to wrap it up: Come to Carlow, major in science, and don't live in the dorms.
